FOR
PARENTS...
24
hour supervision is provided. The campers are
supervised at all times on the mountain and during activities.
The staff and camp director live in the same hotel to
make sure that everyone is happy. Our ratio of staff
to campers is at least 1 staff for every 8 campers.
Our coaches are also certified pros and the Blackcomb
Glacier is patrolled by professional patrol.
After riding we offer supervised activities and those
campers that choose not to participate may be allowed,
depending on their age, to shop in Whistler village
which is a small enclosed village with no cars in the
main centre (just steps from our hotel). All campers
must check in with their counsellor at specified times
and we are aware that younger campers have different
needs than older campers. We do not allow drugs or alcohol
with our minor campers. If required, parents will be
contacted and campers may be sent home immediately without
refund.
Young Campers Traveling Alone to Camp
We
have many young campers that travel
alone to our camp. You can request "Unaccompanied
Minor" service from all the airlines.
They will make sure that your child
stays in the care of the Airlines until
the approved pickup person picks up
the child at the other end. You would
simply register the Dave Murray Summer
Ski and Snowboard
Camp as the receiving party. The cost
is minimal and some airlines do this
for free. You can also request the same
service for the return portion so that
they stay with airline staff right from
when we check them in on the departure
day.
Minors traveling alone to our camp should carry our
travel form
Local
Camper Supervision
Because underage Local campers do not stay at our hotel
and it is very hard for us to provide the proper supervision
otherwise, parents have 2 choices:
1) drop them at breakfast restaurant and pick up at
4 PM at hotel.
2) Drop them at breakfast restaurant and pick them up
at 9:30 PM at hotel
Medical
Facilities
Whistler is a very developed international resort on
the scale of Vail or Aspen. We have a full scale medical
centre that is very experienced at handling all emergencies.
You should have travel insurance and we require campers
under 19 to fill out a medical history and Authorization
to treat a minor form. The US border is only 30 minutes
from Vancouver and 2.5 hrs from Whistler. The Whistler
medical clinic is very experienced with air-evacuations
to Vancouver, a major city of 3 million people. Please
note that Whistler Health Centre will not accept non-Canadian
medical coverage. You will need to pay by credit card
or cash,
and then send your receipts to your health insurance
company to be
reimbursed.

Family Options / Room Upgrades
Whistler is perfect for families
because while their children participate in the camp,
parents can play golf, go biking
on the valley trails, lunch on a patio, shop in the
village, fly-fish or take a helicopter tour of our spectacular
scenery etc. For more information on all the
summer Whistler activities and hotel accommodations
options, go to Tourism Whistler’s website at:
www.tourismwhistler.com
or call them at: 1-888-869-2777
Parents are also welcome to participate
in the adult ski and snowboard camps.
As most children enjoy being part of the camp experience
where they fully integrate with the other campers, it
is most popular for the parents to stay in a separate
room or hotel.
If your child does not want to share a bedroom, parents
have the option to pay the upgrade as mentioned below.
Your child will still have two other “roommates”
in the suite but his room will be private.
Camp and Accommodation options available
to parents:
1) Parents Join The Camp: Parents can
participate in the camp as a full (with our hotel), or
local (no hotel) camper. Local adult campers can get
accommodation on their own in Whistler (see 3 below). We
have an adult program running at the same time so that
you can have an adult schedule while your child enjoys
the regular camp. You will be able to "bump into"
your child throughout the day on the glacier and at
activities - just remember that young campers usually
enjoy the camp experience more when they fully integrate
with the other campers and get a feeling of being
independent from the parents.
2) Private
Room Upgrade: If both you and your child pay for the
private room upgrade after signing up for the full camp,
then the entire suite is now private for you and your
family to use. This might be a good option if you want
to participate in the camp with your very young (7-8yrs)
old camper, and have concerns about them being too young
to stay on their own. If you have two children camping with us in the
full camp, and if
both children pay for the private room
upgrade (see pricing page) then the entire suite is
also now private
for you and other non-camper family to use.
3) Parents
Get Own Accommodation and Stay in Whistler: Parents can contact Tourism Whistler
www.tourismwhistler.com
to arrange for accommodations at a different hotel.
Parents can also book a room direct with the Tantalus
Lodge (same hotel as the campers) by calling 1-
888-633-4046 (www.tantaluslodge.com).
Whistler has endless things for parents to do while your
child is at camp but parents can also drop by the camp
anytime, and we can also arrange for the parents to get
up and see the glacier play area.
